How to tell it's a scam
- The link isn't netflix.com. In these texts it goes to sites like account-details[.]com, or a jumble of letters on a .info address.
- It asks you to "sign in and confirm your details." Netflix says it will never ask you to share personal information, like your card number, bank details, or Netflix password, in a text or email.
- Odd spacing and typos. "NETFLIX :" with a space before the colon, and "keek" instead of "keep."
- A threat to your service. It warns that your account will stop working unless you act now.
What Netflix says it does
Netflix says it will never ask for your personal information in a text or email, and will never ask you to pay through a third-party vendor or website. If you're worried about your payment, open the Netflix app or type netflix.com into your browser and check your account there.
If you tapped the link or entered details
- Entered your card number? Call your bank using the number on your card and ask them to block it.
- Entered your Netflix password? Change it on netflix.com right away, and anywhere else you use the same password.
- The full checklist is in what to do if you clicked a scam link.
Report it
- Forward the text to phishing@netflix.com, then delete it. That's Netflix's own address for suspicious messages.
- Forward it to 7726 (SPAM) so your carrier can block the sender. How to report spam texts on iPhone.
- Report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Questions
How do I check if my Netflix payment really failed?
Open the Netflix app, or go to netflix.com by typing it yourself, and look at your account there. Don't use a link from a text to check.
Where do I report a fake Netflix text?
Netflix asks you to forward suspicious messages to phishing@netflix.com and then delete them. Forward the text to 7726 too, so your carrier can block the sender.
I entered my card number or password. What now?
Call your bank using the number on your card and ask them to block the card. Change your Netflix password on netflix.com, and change it anywhere else you use the same one.
